The State

THE STATE – a megalomaniac staging of a city.

Despite attempts to mix the population in large cities, we increasingly live in areas and in ways with people similar to ourselves. The polarization in society is reflected in the way we decorate our homes. But who are we that live in the city really, and is it possible for us to get out of the bubble and meet each other despite our different values, backgrounds and the ideas we have of each other?

THE STATE is fix+foxy’s largest, most ambitious and megalomaniacal project to date. It will, with it’s hundreds of voices, evoke the image of a complex and fragmented society. A society where right-wing radicals, left-wingers, vegans, migrants, minorities, and those who have lost their faith and would rather be completely by themselves – live side by side. We all live in a welfare state, which is tasked with ensuring our basic social rights. We all have given some of our freedom to the state, in exchange for receiving the security that the community gives us. But are we safe, and do we at all have something in common anymore?

THE STATE is a huge serial performative installation of small and large theatrical experiences distributed all over Copenhagen. They examine the state and its citizens over the course of half a year.

THE STATE is produced in collaboration with Toaster/Husets Teater and is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, Bikuben Foundation, Lemvigh-Müller Foundation, Hoffmann and Husmans Foundation, Knud Højgaards Foundation, L. Zeuthens Memorial Legatee, and Grosserer Andreas Collstrop and Son Rudolf Collstrup’s Memorial Legatee.
